Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s Spaghetti Circus’s Major Work for 2008 …. ‘The Super Hero’s Show!’
The best of Spaghetti Circus have been training their little fingers (and hands and feet) to the bone preparing for their upcoming show ‘The Super Hero’s Show’. The show explores world domination and the destruction of innocence and beauty … did we mention the PG rating? (Low level simulated violence and dark themes) Inspired by old school Super Hero’s the show takes place in dark city streets where strange and mysterious creatures lurk!
The show will take place in the Spaghetti Circus back shed which has been transformed by visual artist Tanya Burkhardt, ‘The sets have been inspired by old Marvel and DC comic books to create a dark urban landscape.’ Thanks to funding from Arts NSW Infrastructure and NRCF we now have a sprung wooden floor and tiered seating in the back shed making it a great space for performance.
The show is a culmination of a 3 year process led by Artistic Director, Simon Adams. Following on from ‘The Pirates Show’ and the ‘Ready, Set Go!’ Sports Show the ‘Super Hero’s Show’ has a strong theatrical focus. Simon said, ‘The show is an interplay between high level circus skills and physical theatre where the characters are informed by the personalities of the kids.’
After 2 years of foundation training the Youth Performance and Advanced Troupe participants progressed onto new apparatus’ including teeterboard (very dangerous see-saw!) and trampoline (which has already claimed a few casualties!) Contortion straps using a counter weight system will also feature in the show (where one person sends another soaring into the air using their weight!) The new skills were introduced as part of the Peer Exchange Program where professional circus performers taught at Spaghetti Circus. The PEP Program is supported by Arts NSW, Regional Arts Fund and Australia Council’s Community Partnerships Program.
