Late in 2014 a team of the Spaghetti Circus family made their way to Woodford to put up the Big Top), create performances, teach workshops, manage shows, and share the love and joy of circus with other circus aficionados from all over the world.

Circadia Artist Development program

One of the highlights was Spaghetti Performance Troupe member, Jade Donald, developing a great duo handstand act for the Circadia Artist Development program, a week-long act development and performance program with international performer Natano Fa’anana and co-Artistic Director of Flipside Circus, Brisbane.

Jade was one of the 12 emerging artists chosen from local youth circuses in the region – Circus Arts Byron Bay, Flipside and Circa Zoo – to develop and perform cabaret acts, with Spaghetti’s Creative Director Simone O’Brien and Flipside’s Alyssa Venning assisting Natano.

One of Jade’s highlights was doing front of house as a ‘dead usher’ for the Frankenstein Freakshow, a role she was born for and took to with gusto.

The Palace Big Top

Spaghetti’s General Manager/Creative Producer Alice Cadwell and Tent Boss Rich Morrod corralled a team of Spaghetti workers (thanks Sue Hird) and Jeremy, our Charles Sturt University intern to erect and manage the Big Top at Woodford for the second time. Known as The Palace, the Spaghetti managed the Big Top tent, which became the hub of circus activity over the festival, with over 35 000 people watching performances in the venue. Chelsea McGuffin, (co-Artistic Director of Flipside and Company Two) programmed a diverse range of local, national and international circus acts for the season.

Favourites:

Flipism (sell out shows from recent Fruit Fly graduates), The Crack Up Sisters, Helen Cassidy, The Vaudevillanous Mr Gorksi, Three High Acrobatics, Mr Spin, Alex Mizzen, Tumble Circus (Ken and Tina from Northern Ireland) and Spaghetti’s Creative Director making a guest appearance in the Gold Dust Cabaret! This kind of line up will be a taste of things to come at the 2015 Mullumbimby Circus Festival. Watch this space.
