SPAGHETTI CIRCUS

TERM 1

COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER

HI FROM SIMON

Welcome back.  I am looking forward to a great year building on the success of the Pirate show 2006.
The newly formed Performance group has been created to support the growth of our young emerging artists,  offering more training sessions to develop skills and provide opportunity for their development as professional artists.  This committed group picked from the Advanced troupe will be performing the many shows planned for the year.  We are presently seeking funding and sponsorship to tour the pirate show to regional theatres later in the year and to then take this production to the Adelaide fringe festival 2008.  In addition a new production entitled Ready set Go! will be shown in local theatres and will tour to 10 schools in term 4. The new production will explore the theme of sport and Australia's obsession with sporting heroes from the perspective of young people.  The aim is to survey schools to integrate their ideas,  which will then feed into the new works creation developed by the performance group with myself and a guest director Jodie Farrugia.  This is very exciting and will be the first time  we have developed an issue based work young peoples perspectives.
New in the world of administration, the end of 2006 saw the creation of  a new board.  The board and  Spaghetti Circus are now developing a future plan for the growth and sustained development of circus within the region.  We are currently working in partnership with Three plus consultants on the Gold Coast to develop a strategic business plan to realize our future vision.
That’s about it from me I could rattle on forever as there is so much going on at Spaghetti at the moment.
But that's enough from me! So wishing you all a happy, prosperous and fulfilling year in this splendid year of the Pig!!

KIMS CORNER

Kim has a word of praise for those Mighty Mini ones who seem to have been working well in this year of the golden pig
These minis will be performing for the cancer council on the 31st of March in the relay for life at Bangalow.

TASMANIAN CIRCUS FESTIVAL

Written by Rose Jones
On the first of February 2007 a very excited troupe including Jahalia, Tiana, Ayla, Zen, Bryony, Cassie, Emily-may, Flynn,Josh,Peter, Willow, Rhiannon, Rose, Leonie, Simon and our awesome campmum Tanya! Along with Billie who flew down from NICA for  couple of days to perform with us!!! Whoo Go  Billie!! We had 13 days in beautiful Tassie. Where we performed to around 1500 people!!! The fresh coolness was a welcomed change from the intense heat back home. The weather was great apart from one night when a couple of our tents got flooded, while some of the air mattresses deflated overnight and had to be pumped up everyday! The workshops ran from 11 am to 6pm daily and were very inspiring and we learnt a lot of new skills.  The laughter workshop each morning was a funny way to start the day ha ha

We also shared 3 birthdays Bryony turned 13 on the 11th, Rhiannon turned 155 on the 13th and Miro(Joel Saloms son)who turned 2!!! The food was delicious from Trevors restaurant.  Due to the dry season water was precious and much to our disappointment we were not able to swim in the beautiful dam.  Our resident possum had all sorts of objects launched at it whilst helping itself to our munchies! It was great to be among  so many interesting Circus Freaks and World class performers. I look forward to going back someday. Rose

We managed to get some adults  along to the circus festival  at Lone Star Gulconda this year which is fantastic. Deryn, Sanjay Hannah Anjelina were  the first lot of adults that attended with spaghetti.good for us Hannah was there for when Rhiannon was unable to do a show Hannah was there to replace her so I look forward to the adults  having a higher profile in 2007.

MINI NOODLES

We have the most exciting news that last Friday February Nikki our lovely coach delivered into the world a beautiful boy child who I have high hopes for as he did not make it to the hospital to be born, preferring to come at home in his own swift time I wonder what is in store for this littlest of noodles?
I have seen the mother of this small man back on the job doing the noodle thing since I came back from WA
Spaghetti planted a tree on the day of Jarra s birth which forms part of a planned garden for the new green shed which should be opened officially later this year

GIGS WE HAVE DONE THIS YEAR

Electric Sunshine started off the year new years day here at Mullumbimby in the footy fields Were we preformed excerpts of the pirate show to a dancing public.
12th -14th January Exodus Festival out at bald Rock
26th January  we went up to the Gold
Coast  and did a Australia Day gig  in the sun of Southport arts Centre.
Friday 9th February the film festival opening saw our contortion girls turning themselves inside out for the sake of art.

GOODBYE BILLY

Billy our most fantastic coach and her alter ego hula goddess and cloudswing queen( in good anarchist colours of red and black )is leaving us yes it is true that she has been accepted to NICA -( how come there was no university that included circus when I was young?)  All of spaghetti wish her all of the luck but hope that she gets jack of the lousy weather in Melbourne and comes home again we love you bill.
also much must be made of the help and support that billys parents Brwndyr and Mark have done over the years for us of spaghetti they are the volunteer extroidineer they have many thanks from all of us in spaghetti circus.
for the lots of small and not so small voeles who make up our busy spaghetti community.

PIRATE SHOW

Byron community centre 2nd March 3rd and 4th saw a repeat of the pirate show. This pirate show is a fantastic showcase of the skills our advanced troupe .

THE FIRST WESTERN AUSTRALIA CIRCUS FESTIVAL

I was lucky to accompany Leonie to this festival in the most delightful location Karidale WA where we were treated to a week of grueling training and then a morgues board of circus performances from all over Australia and overseas

We were well received when we preformed our new show to the crowds. highlight for me was the showing of Acrobats new show which stunned me.

Planning a performance night for the adults who come to our classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays which will hopefully include other aspiring performers in the area  for a exciting night of various performers you can mark the last Sunday in the month on your colanders for a relaxed night of exciting performance.
Commmmunity show 2006
With money we received from our very successful and exciting community show last year we were able to buy a marquee for us when we do outdoor gigs and also a extendable ladder which I am very happy about. as the old one and I were not friends

BELATED hello to all the new peoples joining spaghetti for the first time this year and a warm welcome back to the returning circus heads it is a grand year that seems top be speeding by I look forward to a talking to you all again soon...
