Our Vision

Spaghetti Circus Vision

Spaghetti Circus Inc. is a circus school and performing arts company, which promotes excellence in circus arts and physical theatre. We seek to develop the artistic, theatrical and physical skills of youth around the NSW region of the Northern Rivers. We provide an inspirational training space for professional artists to explore and develop their work while sharing their unique skills with Spaghetti participants, their industry peers and the community at large.

“Dare to dream • Learn to fly • Make your mark”

In a risk averse world seemingly dominated by fear and constrained by perceived limitations, circus offers us the possibility to dream, play, imagine, aspire and connect.

While the demands of circus are mighty, through risk taking, physical effort and teamwork, its rewards are many. We learn to fly, to fall and to fail, safely. We discover our inner resources to master a skill and to hone a performance. We find a community that encourages and supports us to become more than we thought possible.

Circus is a place where a disenfranchised youth can become a queen; where a timid child can learn to soar; where a performance can transport an audience into a land of wonder and possibility; where a community can discover themselves in a new and positive way.

Our vision is to embed the concept of ‘dare to dream, learn to fly, make your mark’ across all our activities. It will inform and impact on:

• the way we teach ~ using visualisation, the power of imagination to train the mind, body and spirit to reach our goals

• the venues we choose ~ taking circus into our communities by performing in backyards, parks, farms, shopfronts

• how we practice ~ with determination, persistence, setting goals and visualisation

• the works we produce ~ young people are collaborators in the creation of works of scale, innovation and imagination, working alongside senior artists to develop professional practice

Spaghetti-18• the communities we choose to work with ~ working with Aboriginal young people in Coraki and people of all ages and abilities, giving them the opportunity to walk tall on stilts and fly high with aerials at the Mullumbimby Circus Festival

• our position in the region ~ creating a regional hub for circus, marking the gateway of the Northern Circus Corridor, from Byron Bay in the south, Lismore in the west via the Gold Coast to Brisbane with expanded operations, iconic facilities and a Big Top tent partnership for touring

Circus is the process and the platform through which we increase our emotional, physical & social intelligence.

This vision will be achieved through the exploration of nexus between creativity, capacity and community. All of our activities will fall under one of these strategic elements but be informed by the others.

Through a focus on creativity, we expand the possibilities of what circus can be and do, researching expansive approaches through live art, electronic and visual arts, media and technology, dance and puppetry, site and scale. Through a focus on capacity, we strengthen the organisation financially through its investing in its creative capital – its staff, senior and emerging artists to foster a broad spectrum of unique, resilient artists producing innovative works of distinction that reflect the stories, values and flavours of the Northern Rivers.
